Backpack Hero 1.0 is out now on PC and Nintendo Switch!

SURPRISE! We just did a Shadow Drop at Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase: Backpack Hero 1.0 is out now on Nintendo Switch and PC!

Huge congrats to Backpack Hero creators Jas, BinaryCounter and Gangs. You made this incredible game, you are superb people, and you amaze us constantly – it’s a pleasure and privilege to support you. Thank you!

This is a big milestone for Different Tales publishing! We’ve never done anything quite like this: turns out that a Shadow Drop – on Switch, Steam, GOG, and Epic, for a live game in Early Access — is no small feat for a tiny team. But it was worth it, we’ve learned a ton, and each of us came out stronger!

To all the fantastic people who helped make this huge thing happen today – our friends at Nintendo, GOG, Epic Games, and Itch.io, the unrelenting porting crew at Aurora Punks, our partners at Gamedev Fund, IndieArk, The BEAST, and Evolve PR, our dear graphic designers and video editors – thank you for your work, effort, and incredible patience!

Backpack Hero 1.0 – the inventory management roguelike – is out now on Nintendo Switch, Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Itch.

Backpack Hero with Community Vote Award at Digital Dragons Indie Showcase 2023

On May 15 & 16, our publishing team traveled to Kraków to present in the Indie Showcase two of published by us indie gems – Backpack Hero (developed by the Backpack Team) and Havendock (created by a solo dev – YYZ).

Both titles managed to be selected for the Indie Showcase Finals, and in addition to that Backpack Hero managed to receive a Community Vote Award for which the DT publishing team accepted the award in behalf of the Backpack Team.

We would like to thank all the players, fellow devs, and friends who voted for the game! We couldn’t achieve this without your support!

Havendock now available in Early Access on Steam!

This cozy colony sim was born just a bit over a year ago and is the work of an incredible solo developer YYZ. He’s been working closely with the community from the very beginning, allowing players to experience the game at its early stages and following their feedback.

It’s wonderful to be part of such a special project and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Havendock!

If you’d like to know more about the game – visits its Steam page on which you will be able to follow the game news and updates, alongside already trying the Early Access version of the game and joining the game’s wonderful and passionate community.

Different Tales will publish Havendock

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve joined forces with solo developer Yeo Ying Zhi (a.k.a. YYZ) to release his spectacular game: Havendock!

Havendock is an oceanic colony sim about a castaway inventor. You know the story: clutching a scrap of wood, surviving out in the middle of the ocean. But then things get wild. You build a high-tech society of vibrant settlers, with power plants, robots, submarines, and… rockets!

Havendock is a fun-to-learn and fiercely captivating indie gem. We fell in love right away, spent hours with it, and honestly, we’re amazed by how much YYZ has accomplished as a solo creator. We’re joining the project to help in those areas where it is most difficult to work alone. We will support the development process, help reach new players, and bring in the buzz that YYZ deserves – after all, Steam Early Access is coming soon!

Enough talk, heed this advice: play the fantastic demo right now, and stay tuned for more exciting news to come!

Different Tales is publishing Backpack Hero

We’re teaming up with Jaspel to publish their Early Access bestseller Backpack Hero!

There’s a good chance you’ve heard of the inventory management roguelike – over 150,000 have played it so far, it’s one of the year’s most impactful indies after all.

We’ve been great fans for a while now: the clever roguelike twist, the delightful vibes, and its lively supportive community.

And we admire Jaspel immensely – a tiny remote team scattered all over the world, who’ve already accomplished a fantastic Early Access launch. They’re simply extraordinary.

Now Different Tales is jumping in to help gear up for an excellent full launch, reach new players, and publish on new platforms.

We love the game and its developers dearly; we can’t wait to help build every bit of success they deserve. Stay tuned, you’ll hear more from us soon!

Focus Entertainment and Different Tales team up

We are pleased to announce a partnership with Focus Entertainment that will bring a game that promises an immersive and benevolent experience, where players will explore universal themes as well as their own sensibilities.

“From the very beginning, Focus seemed to be the perfect partner for us because of the values we share,” says Jakub Radkowski, Board Member of Different Tales. “They paid attention to aspects of the project, such as the narrative, that are very important to us. Their great commitment makes us confident that the game will be better than if we were to publish it ourselves.”

Our partnership with the Different Tales team is built around common values, bringing hope” explains Yves Le Yaouanq, Chief Content Office at Focus Entertainment. “A vision, underpinned by narrative excellence, already demonstrated in the studio’s previous games and by its talent. It is this collective spirit, which we find in this collaboration, where the current challenges of our world respond to a sense of the marvelous: how to build and rebuild, to be an actor of change within a community. Both a slice of life tale and a simulation game, this upcoming title offers players a unique blend of emotive storytelling, crafting and strategy: the partnership with Focus was therefore obvious.

Digital Culture

We’re happy to share, that our Werewolf: the Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest was awarded with Polityka’s Passport, one of the most important Poland’s cultural awards!

We are very happy to receive it, and proud that we had a chance to tell about the situation in Poland, and use our local elements to create a story with a universal appeal.

“This is a game about rage, and about turning it into something good. I want to dedicate it to all the people who took their anger this year, took to the streets, and decided to do something about the surrounding reality.” Said our writer Marta Malinowska during her acceptance speech, referring to mass “Women’s Strike” protests, which sparked all over Poland after a total government ban on abortion in 2020 and flame to this very day.

We feel that games have an equal voice in the public space to literature, film, or music in providing a social and political commentary, and we’re honoured that we are in the position to use that voice.
